Report:
I recently spent a couple of days fossil-hunting at Helmsdale and at a couple of locations along the coast to the south. The area seems extremely well picked over now with very limited fossils. I found a couple of large chunks of coral near to the harbour and some fossilised wood, but little else except quite a nice orthoceras at Lothbeg to the south. A guess this is because erosion of the fossil beds is pretty limited so replacement is slow.
P.S. The rock + fossil collection at the Orcadian Stone Company in nearby Golspie is excellent.
